Research Building:

Fisheries Field Research Building

Equipment for our field research is housed and maintained in our new 40’ x 60’ Fisheries Research Building, located just east of the Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit’s Research Building on McElroy Rd (west end of main campus). This facility has three 14' wide x 10' high garage door bays and floor drains that allow us to dry equipment, perform maintenance, fabricate equipment as well as store our boats and research equipment.

Boats:

Smith-Root electrofishing boat

2006 Smith-Root Inc. SR-16EB - 16 foot aluminum boat powered by a 75 HP Evinrude E-tech engine.  While this boat is designed as an electrofishing boat, it has removable bow railing and electrofishing booms so it can also easily be used as a net-setting boat.  It has a 5.0 GPP electrofishing system built into the center console and a 60-gallon livewell plumbed into the boat.  The boat is also wired to use either of our Lowrance depth sounder/gps units (10" HDS-9 Gen Touch-2 or 7" HDS-12 Carbon).

SeaArk electrofishing boat

2007 SeaArk 1872P - 18 foot aluminum boat with side steering console and 0.125 gauge tread plate floor and a bow deck with rivet-less design (so gill nets do not snag on it).  It is powered by a 115 HP Mercury 4-stroke engine with Command Thrust gear case.  We have configured this boat for maximum flexibility.  It is 8 ft. wide and has a payload capacity of 1,360 lb/10 people, making it ideal for taking groups of students out in lab courses or carrying gill nets, trap nets, etc.  It is also configured to use our 7.5 GPP electrofishing system, 70-gallon removable livewell and has a removable bow railing and electrofishing booms so it can be used for electrofishing or net setting.  The boat is also wired to use either of our Lowrance depth sounder/gps units (10" HDS-9 Gen Touch-2 or 7" HDS-12 Carbon).

Other Boats:

Crestliner gill-net setting boat

We also have several other boats of various sizes and configurations (including some rigged for electrofishing) in our lab and available through our partnership with the Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.

Electrofishers:

Smith-Root 7.5 GPP electrofisher

Smith-Root portable 7.5 GPP Electrofisher with Kohler Generator.  This unit produces 7,500 Watts of power.

Smith-Root 5.0 GPP electrofisher

5.0 GPP Built into Smith-Root electrofishing boat.  This unit produces up to 5,000 Watts of power and uses a generator that is housed in a sound-dampening casing under the drivers seat, making the unit very quiet while operating.

Vehicles:

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with long bed (8') and extended 4-door cab.  This truck has a 5.7 L V8 HEMI Magnum engine.

Motorpool vehicle

Several other trucks (1/2, 3/4/or 1-Ton), SUV, and vans are available through OSU motorpool and through our partnership with the Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.

Meters and electronic equipment:

Lowrance LCX-112c depthsounder/GPS

Lowrance LCX-112c depth sounder/GPS with 10" color FFT screen.  This unit can record acoustic and GPS data, can subsequently be analyzed with ArcGIS.  This unit is also interchangeable with our other Lowrance, so it can be used in any of our boats.

LCX-25C Enhanced Recording Sonar/GPS+WAAS

Lowrance LCX-25c depth sounder/GPS with 7" color FFT screen.  This unit can record acoustic and GPS data, can subsequently be analyzed with ArcGIS.  This unit is also interchangeable with our other Lowrance, so it can be used in any of our boats.

YSI 556 Multimeter with 20m cable.  Simultaneously measures dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity/salinity, temperature, and ORP and has a built in barometer to automatically adjust for atmospheric pressure.  Internal memory can store over 49,000 time & date stamped data sets.

YSI 610-D with 600 XLCE-25-O multi-parameter probe simultaneously measures dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity/salinity, temperature, TDS, pH, ORP, and depth.  Internal processor can automatically record and store data for later download to PC.

Miscellaneous sampling equipment:

gillnet setting

We have a variety of dipnets, gill nets, seines, hoop nets, measuring boards, etc. that are used for sampling fish.  We also have metal clipboards and portable PDA data entry devices to help with data recording.

We have several portable scales/balances that cover different weights from 10 mg to 23 kg.
